Egghead -- Characterization and Visual Arts

"Our main goal was to gain a better understanding of characterization, and we used the question, 'What makes a person who they are?' to guide our inquiry… Throughout the reading of the novel we spoke extensively about characterization. The students selected one character who they wanted to delve a little deeper into, focusing on the different aspects of the character's life that influenced his/her development.  Once this was done we paired with the grade 12 Visual Arts class and created a canvas to represent their chosen character.  Finally, the students were filmed explaining their motivations behind their canvases.  We have created a gallery walk in the school with a few pieces of the artwork along with the filmed explanations."
