Katie and Devan see things very differently, but one thing is clear. Grade nine life is hard – especially when your friend is a bully or a victim.

Katie:

I admit, Will is odd. But the way I see it, everyone is different in one way or another, right? Jenna has allergies, Erin sees a social worker, Marco’s teenage sister ran away from home, and my Dad has cancer. I don’t understand why Shane and his friends pick on Will so much, and I don’t know why Will lets them. He is smarter than that.

I knew grade 9 was going to be different, but not like this. Why do things have to change?

Devan:

Shane’s hilarious, I swear. You should have seen his impersonation of that fat kid from the 7-11. Man, I laughed so hard Slurpie came out my nose. Yeah, Shane cracks everyone up.

Everyone, except maybe that fat kid.

I’m glad Shane passed grade 8 this time. Grade 9 just wouldn’t have been the same without him. With Shane there, you can bet it’ll be a riot.

And with this weird kid, Will, Shane’s got all kinds of new material.
