Researching The Gospel Truth.

Primary sources are powerful ways to see the past through the eyes of someone who has lived it. One of the key resources for developing the various voices of The Gospel Truth is Unchained Memories. It has photos and excerpts of the transcribed interviews with people who had escaped slavery. HBO made a documentary of it with African American actors performing the readings. Below are a sample of some of the Unchained Memories photos that Caroline used as inspiration as well as a few of of her writing process.
